Winter is upon us, folks! Well…Texas winter that is. Even though we don’t experience the arctic temperatures that the northern U.S. does, there are still some precautions we can take when Texas does decide to do that occasional dip below 32 degrees.
Tire pressure tends to decrease in cold weather so if your tires are already low to begin with then you’ll be in trouble sooner than later.
With cold weather comes ice, sleet, and if we’re lucky, snow. It’s important to make sure your windshield wipers are in good condition and to replace them if they’re not. You don’t want to be getting pelted by sleet and not be able to get it off your windshield.
This is especially important for older vehicles. It’s imperative to have a good quality coolant in your car to prevent freezing and lines bursting.
As you may already know from prior experience, lower temperatures do affect the life of your battery. Cold weather can sometimes inhibit the battery’s ability to operate at full capacity which means that your car might not start and leave you stranded.
Another precautionary measure to take as winter approaches is make sure all your brake lights, headlights, etc. are working without any issues. In heavy rain, sleet, and snow your visibility is affected so make sure that all your vehicle’s lights work to avoid a collision. We’re fortunate to live in Texas where we don’t have harsh winters, but it’s still important to take the time to make sure that you and your family are safe in their vehicles.
