1966 MUSTANG: COYOTE SWAP
We’ve talked a little bit about this project, but now that it’s starting to come to life we wanted to give you guys an update on the progress.
A lot of people think that we only do complete restorations or that we even do these projects from start to finish and then sell them. The answer to both of those assumptions is no. This car is a great example of giving the customer what they want and that no job is too big or too small.
For this project, we will be doing all the fabrication and suspension work and then we'll hand it back to the customer because he wants to finish out the engine installation himself. Even so, this will still be an awesome restomod when it's finished!
So let's talk fabrication. Back in the day engines, driveshafts, and transmissions were much smaller than they are today due to the accessories and thousands of sensors that modern vehicles have. As you already know, the powerplant for this car is a 5.0 Coyote motor and the transmission is a 6R80. So we had to make the existing tunnel wider and a bit taller. Check out the before and after below:
To prepare for the new suspension, the underside of the car needed to be cleaned up and the frame boxed in.
Boxing in the frame to give it more stability. We added another layer of undercoat to the car once the welding was completed to make it look uniform and clean.
The rearend and suspension is in! We went with QA1 shocks for this project.
We have a few more things left to do and then this job will be done. Like I said, no job is too big or too small and our goal is to always meet and exceed the customer's expectations even if that means we don't get to finish out a car.
